LIFE Programme

LIFE programme has awarded more than €380 million to 133 new green projects in support of the European Green Deal. The European Commission funding package announced today represents more than half the total investment of €722 million for LIFE projects awarded so far this year.

A record 895 applications requesting a total of more than €2.7 billion in EU funding were received in response to the LIFE 2024 calls for proposals for nature, environment, climate action and clean energy projects.

Since 1992, LIFE has supported 140+ environmental certification projects, led mostly by SMEs across various sectors. LIFE has pioneered EU Ecolabel, EMAS, and other green certifications, driving sustainable practices in both public and private sectors.

The LIFE NEW HYTS project is advancing hydrogen-powered heavy transport. On 4 October, King Willem-Alexander inaugurated a new green hydrogen electrolyser near Utrecht, developed by Hysolar and supported by LIFE. This facility marks a key milestone in the energy transition.

Euronews spotlighted the LIFE Project WAT'SAVEREUSE, which promotes circular economy solutions in Europe's water-scarce regions. The project helps hotels and campsites optimise and recycle water, driving sustainability in tourism.

The 7th and last call for applications of the European City Facility (EUCF) opens on 15 October and closes on 18 December, 2024. To date, six application rounds have aided over 300 municipalities across Europe in accelerating their investments.
